Hi, I’m Muhammad Altaf
I’m the founder and writer behind GrammarSmartly.com.
By profession, I’ve spent the last 7 years teaching computer science at a college in Punjab, Pakistan. But English — and specifically the small, tricky details of the language, like the difference between a simile and a metaphor, or why two words that seem like synonyms don’t always mean quite the same thing — has always been a personal passion of mine, separate from my day job.
GrammarSmartly started from a simple observation: a lot of grammar content online is either too academic and hard to follow, or too thin to actually be useful. I wanted to build something in between — clear, accurate, example-driven explanations that actually help someone understand why something is correct, not just recite a rule.

Every article on GrammarSmartly is checked against established, reputable sources before publishing — including:
- Oxford Dictionary / Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries
- Merriam-Webster
- Cambridge Dictionary
Where usage or rules differ between American and British English, I try to note the distinction rather than presenting one as universally “correct.”
This site is currently a one-person project. I’m not going to pretend otherwise with a fake editorial team — I’d rather you know exactly who’s writing what you’re reading, and trust that it’s been carefully researched, than dress it up as something it isn’t. As the site grows, any additional writers or contributors will be introduced here with their real names and backgrounds.
